Recently, Honest Automation organized a two-day annual team-building event. Before the journey began, many team members shared a common question: is team building simply a short break from work, or just a routine group activity?
This event provided a clear answer. A truly effective team-building experience brings people together around a shared goal and challenges them to succeed through collaboration, trust, and coordination.
The “challenge” in this context was not related to business competition, but carefully designed team activities. Through collaborative tasks and outdoor experiences, participants were able to reconnect with a work mindset centered on aligned objectives, mutual trust, clear roles, and collective progress—away from daily routines and operational pressures.
Moving Forward Together, Building Trust as One Team
On the first day, employees departed in organized vehicle groups and gathered at the destination as a whole. Team members were then reassigned into cross-functional groups through a randomized process, breaking down departmental boundaries. Each group quickly established its team identity by creating a team name, slogan, and visual symbol, fostering a strong sense of belonging and collaboration from the outset.
Two key collaborative activities—“World Ball Challenge” and “Drum Ball Coordination”—served as the core practical exercises of the event. These activities required efficient communication, clear role allocation, and close cooperation, allowing participants to experience firsthand the importance of teamwork and trust in achieving shared goals.
Collaboration and Synchronization in the "World Ball Challenge"
In the "World Ball Challenge" activity, each team worked together to manipulate a map, guiding a ball along a designated path. What seemed like a simple task was, in fact, a test of the team’s synchronization and ability to maintain a broad perspective.
Through several rounds of trial and error, team members learned to listen to each other, adjust their movements, and ultimately achieved successful collaborative ball control. This experience vividly illustrated the importance of coordination and alignment in the workplace: only through mutual collaboration and a consistent rhythm can a team move forward effectively and achieve success.
Focus and Trust in the "Drum Ball Coordination" Challenge
The "Drum Ball Coordination" activity tested the focus and trust between team members. Over a dozen participants worked together to control a drum and bounce the ball as many times as possible in the shortest time. Though the team faced several setbacks in the beginning, they gradually realized that the key to success lay in staying focused on the shared goal and trusting that each member would respond synchronously.
As the ball bounced steadily on the drum surface, the team achieved not only a technical breakthrough but also a collective sense of efficiency built on trust.
Evening BBQ: Genuine Interaction Beyond the Workplace
In the evening, team members gathered under the open sky for a relaxed BBQ. Colleagues who typically focus on their individual roles displayed a different side of themselves in this informal setting. The interaction in this non-work environment dissolved the hierarchical barriers and distance often present in the workplace, fostering a stronger sense of closeness and unity among the team.

On the second day, the team embarked on a hike up Gui Feng Mountain. With every helping hand extended and every encouraging look exchanged, the bonds between team members grew stronger. As they reached the summit and looked out over the mountains, a sense of accomplishment washed over everyone. This was not just a physical challenge, but a vivid representation of team spirit. Every step forward was made possible by the support of others, and every achievement was a collective effort.
